Feeling Groggy in the Morning? Here’s The Cure

There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning feeling as though you don’t want to do anything other than pull the covers back over. The reason for this however is not because you are a lazy person, but rather because of the way in which you live your life and the habits which you are doing, or not doing, that cause you to have such low energy on a morning.

If you are sick and tired of waking up with low energy levels and a groggy feeling, here is what you can do to ensure that you wake up with bags full of energy.

Alarm Clock

In terms of your alarm clock there are 2 tips which you should employ to ensure that you wake up and get up. The first step is to place your alarm clock away from the bed, or at least out of reach, so that you must get up to switch it off. The second step is to make sure that the alarm is some music which you like rather than the harsh alarm tone. The classic alarm tone is enough to bring fear or dread to anyone, the last thing which you’d want when you just wake up.

Make Coffee

When I wake up, the first mission in my mind is to make myself a cup of Joe. I do this for two reasons, the first of course being that caffeine offers a great energy boost to your morning. The second reason why I like to fire up the French press first thing is because the activity of grinding the beans, adding water and using the French press coffee maker is something which gets my brain started and in gear for the day.

Go Natural

Before you go to bed, make sure that you open up our curtains and blinds so that you can let the sun flood into your room on a morning. We are animals after all and the sunlight is one of the best ways to wake up and feel ready for the day ahead.

Routine

If you wake up and go to sleep at more or less the same time each night, you can train your brain to unwind when it’s time to sleep, and wake itself up before you do. This kind of routine is one of the best ways to get yourself up and ready for the new day, with bags of energy.

Water

Try drinking some water before you go to bed so that when you wake up, you will feel the need to go to the bathroom, thus forcing you to get up. Equally, when you first wake up, the first thing on your lips should be a glass of water, the perfect way to get your body functions up and running for the new day.

If you are able to employ some of these tactics then you will find that after just a week or so, you will wake up with plenty of energy and no grogginess at all.

So how can this form of exercise aid you when it comes to concentration? Let’s take a look at the ways in which yoga can help you out when it comes to your ability to concentrate.

Salutation Seal

This is a simple breathing exercise which can help you to clear the airways, get oxygen flowing to the brain, clear your mind and ultimately help you to better concentrate. Sit cross-legged on the floor and place your hands as if you were praying. In this position you simply need to take deep breaths and try your best to clear your mind with each breath.

Alternate Nostril Breathing

Another breathing exercise which can help to flush the cobwebs out of your mind. Sit in the same position as the salutation seal, legs crossed, use your thumb to close off one nostril at a time and take deep breaths before switching nostrils. After 5 minutes of this, you need to close your right nostril and inhale, then switch to the left nostril and exhale, repeat this for at least 10 minutes.

Crane Pose

For this pose you must get into a squat position with your feet shoulder-width apart and place your palms in front of you on the floor. Gradually tilt your body weight forward and hold the position as you take deep breaths. Eventually you should be aiming to bring your feet off the floor as you inhale and exhale.

Tree Stand

Another balancing position is the tree stand, these balance positions are great for concentration practice. Stand up straight, legs shoulder-width apart, bend your right knee and take it with both hands. Gain your balance and then hold this position for 30 seconds before alternating legs. The key to this is form and you should aim to hold your balance with excellent form, feet facing forward and head straight.

Seated Forward Bend

This is a simple pose which will greatly help you in terms of your breathing exercises and your concentration. Sit on the floor, feet out in front, and back straight. As you inhale, you should place your arms above you head to open up your chest cavity and stretch your spine, as you exhale you should reach towards your feet and bend you hips. This pose will help you to really fill your lungs up with air and help you focus on breathing right through your body.

You may not think that breathing exercises can greatly help with concentration but they really can, give it a try!
